Scottish hospitality hits Kilimanjaro

Next January, 19 leading figures from the Scottish hospitality industry will climb Kilimanjaro, aiming to raise £150,000 for Hospitality Industry Trust (HIT) Scotland’s bursary and scholarship funds, which support and promote emerging talent.

The climbers include Alan Hill, director of food and beverages at Gleneagles; Alyson Cawley, managing director of Sodexo division Prestige Scotland; John Strachan, managing director of team building/event management company Maximillion; and Mark Forret, operations director of Compass Group UK and Ireland.

“These senior professionals are showing their enthusiasm for great Scottish hospitality, not just to raise money, but also to lead by example and support the emerging talent of our industry,” HIT Scotland chief executive, David Cochrane, said.

All participants are paying their own way on the trip, which includes a 10 day climb, with a traditional Burns supper, including whisky toast, pipe music and haggis prepared by Michelin starred chef and fellow climber, Andrew Fairlie, planned on the way to the summit.

Money will be raised through corporate sponsorship, individual donations and HIT Scotland’s annual dinner on March 18.
