Cinderella skates into Albert Hall
Conceived and choreographed by artistic director Tony Mercer and Olympic and World Champion skater Evgeny Platov, Cinderella on Ice landed in South Kensington with a cast of 25 and a specially redesigned production featuring fire, rain and flying effects. A 20 piece live orchestra complemented the original score.
Premiered in New Zealand in July 2008, Cinderella is the third production from Imperial Ice Stars on the back of global success with Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake. Brought to London in conjunction with Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, David Atkins Enterprises and Vladislav Olenin for a limited season of eight performances, it is only the second time the arena floor of the Albert Hall has been laid with ice.
“The Cinderella story has been told in many different cultures over many centuries,” Mercer said. “I wanted to give our version a new setting while retaining the ingredients and emotions of this timeless story.”
“By giving these exceptionally talented skaters the freedom to experiment outside competitive skating, we are able to take ice choreography to new limits,” producer James Cundall, chief executive at Lunchbox added.
