Greenwich students training for Games work
University of Greenwich students are to receive specialist training for jobs at the London Olympic Games.
The university’s Business School has teamed up with Jet Set Sports, a company that has provided hospitality work at the last 15 Olympic Games, to provide 16 weeks of training for 300 students, with more than 90 per cent of students completing the training expected to receive a job offer.
Second year students will be tasked with duties including issuing wristbands and guiding people to their seats. Some MA Events Management students will be offered more senior roles as events managers, which will involve organising and supervising groups of workers.
“One session of training is complete and the next is due to start on February 13," Peter Vlachos, Principal Lecturer and Enterprise Leader for the university’s London Centre for Events Management, said. "This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to gain valuable work experience. They will benefit from Jet Set Sports’ years of expertise and in return we are providing a workforce of highly capable, events-specialist business students. It really is a win-win partnership all around.”
